This is the heartbreaking moment a dying puppy mustered up the courage to wag her tail in delight as a group of rescuers approached her in the streets.
Animal Aid Unlimited members discovered the sick pooch in India, suffering from canine distemper, a viral disease that causes fever, coughing, and catarrh.
The weak dog, found abandoned by the side of a road in Udaipur, can be seen wagging her tail as the video maker and team of rescuers approach and show her some love.
Before gently lifting her into the air and carrying her to the van, one man strokes the starving puppy, which is covered in sores and pants heavily.
After that, the dog was hooked up to a drip, and the team treated her for distemper with antibiotics and IV fluids for 14 days.
After a lot of loving care, the dog was soon eating and walking again, and he was able to socialize with the other recovering animals at the centre.
The dog was photographed playing at an animal shelter in Udaipur, Rajasthan, and receiving some much-needed attention from the workers.
The pooch wags her tail with a lot more vigour in the second half of the video, looking much stronger and with a genuine smile on her face.
The video has been viewed over two million times since it was posted online, and many people have praised the volunteers.
‘Wow,’ one person wrote. She would have been dead in a few minutes, I believe. ‘Many thanks for rescuing her.’
‘To think she had enough energy left in her to wag her tail in love for those coming to save her life,’ said another.
You’re incredible people.’
Animal Aid Unlimited is a shelter, hospital, and rescue centre for stray animals found on Udaipur’s streets.
Every year, the centre takes in over 4,500 rescued and recovered animals.
